COMBUSTION TURBINE MAINTENANCE COORDINATOR (Generation East - Any Colorado CT Site)

Responsible for the technical evaluation, coordination, planning, and implementation of work assignments for plant maintenance as assigned by the Combustion Turbine Manager. Responsible for the predictive maintenance program. Responsible for the planning and overseeing of scheduled maintenance outages, close out and completion of tasks in INDUS, document imaging, and drawing control to reflect modifications, and coordination of new installations on plant systems associated with major maintenance and capital projects.

  • Eight (8) years of progressive education and experience in the combustion turbine power generation maintenance field including:

  • a. The equivalent of technical training received in an Associate Degree program such as Electronics Engineering Technology with studies in industrial electrical and electromechanical controls, and digital systems control logic or in a technical discipline preferably engineering technology, including math, mechanics, electronics or related discipline.

    AND

  • b. Six (6) years of practical experience and/or be able to demonstrate knowledge in operation and maintenance of combustion turbine equipment with studies in turbine and generator equipment including controls and protection.

  • Willingness to work at a base location and travel to multiple locations in order to complete duties and responsibilities.

Combustion Turbine Technician

The base location for this position is Knutson Station, near Brighton, Colorado, about 45 minutes northeast of Denver.

Responsible for activities involving the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of the combustion turbine power plant. Requirements listed below are for a JL Technician. Will consider applicants with less experience for apprentice level technician.

  • Seven (7) years of related power plant experience, which may consist of an equivalent combination of related education, training or power plant experience, with natural gas combustion turbine experience preferred.

  • At least one (1) year experience as a JL Power Plant Technician preferred.

  • Instrumentation and Control, or Electrician background strongly desired.

  • Must have good health and physical ability adequate for strenuous work, including ability to wear a respirator.

  • Must reside within a 20 mile radius of the base location.

DAY AHEAD/SHORT TERM POWER MARKETER (TERM MARKETER) (HQ- Westminster, CO)

Under the general supervision of the Energy Portfolio Manager, the Term Marketer is responsible for: day-ahead, weekly, balance-of-month, monthly and quarterly transaction negotiation and execution of commodities supporting asset maximization and hedging strategies of Tri-State resources; monitoring commodity purchases and sales, ensuring that adequate resources are available to meet all Tri-State load obligations; and working together with Energy Markets staff to optimize Tri-State resources.

  • BA/BS degree in Economics, Finance, Business, or related field or combination of education and experience.

  • A minimum of eight (8) years of experience with an electric utility company, energy trading company, or related industry. Previous commodity trading and/or energy industry operations experience preferred. Strong commercial trading, orientation and knowledge preferred.

  • Monitors and manages electricity transactions within approved authority matrices of Tri-State's Energy Risk Management Policy.

  • Review and update, as appropriate, load forecasts prior to executing day-ahead electricity products.

  • Monitor OASIS to assure transmission availability supports electricity transactions and pre-scheduled load/resource balancing processes with Tri-State's system.

  • Establish Tri-State's pre-scheduled market position within approved authority matrices of Tri-State's Energy Risk Management Policy and other operating guidelines.

Responsible for preparing documents for imaging, creating images utilizing scanning hardware and software, and indexing images with appropriate data prior to release into Electronic Document Management System (EDMS).

The Energy Portfolio Analyst is responsible for load and price forecasting, back-casting, data analysis, contract optimization, risk management and asset optimization support as it pertains to short-term energy commodity management.

ENERGY RESOURCE COORDINATOR OR ASSOCIATE (HQ- Westminster, CO)

The Energy Resource Coordinator (ERC) position is a merchant function and is responsible for real time scheduling and dispatch of Tri-State-owned and contracted generation resources fueled by coal, natural gas, fuel oil, hydro, and in the near future, renewable sources. Additional responsibilities include coordination with a Real Time Marketer to optimize resources versus energy markets in order to economically balance member loads and serve long-term power supply agreements.

    Responsibilities:
  • Perform hourly load forecasting, scheduling and balancing as well as intra-hour load and resource balancing of the Tri-State system in coordination with the Balancing Authorities.
  • Hourly coordination required with unit and contractual participants about generation and contract energy schedules.
  • Work with Real Time Marketer to optimize all available generation and transmission assets to the fullest extent possible.
  • During emergency conditions, coordinate with Tri-State Reliability Dispatchers, Balancing Authorities, and Transmission Operators to restore load and generation balance.
  • Maintain spinning and operating reserves at all times. Respond to Reserve Group contingencies.
  • Hourly coordination required with unit and contractual participants about generation and contract energy schedules.
  • Create and adjust electronic Tags as required by applicable NERC Reliability Standards, WECC Business Practice Standards and Balancing Authority Business Practices.
  • Advise Tri-State Reliability Dispatchers when and where to initiate demand side curtailments under the Demand Response Program.
  • Maintain proper generator reactive output and coordinate with Reliability Dispatcher.
  • Coordinate with Plant Operators and Shift Supervisors unexpected contingencies and real time maintenance.
  • Direct start up, shut down and loading of gas turbines for contractual obligations, market opportunities, load balancing or system emergencies.
  • Maintain logs, documenting all relevant operating information, problems and issues encountered during shift.

    Job Requirements:

  • ERC - A minimum of 8 years of related experience on an interconnected electrical system or 5 years as an electric utility reliability dispatcher.
  • Associate ERC - A minimum of 5 years of related experience on an interconnected electrical system or related field or 3 years as an electric utility reliability dispatcher
  • This is a shift position that requires occasional overtime.
  • Must obtain and maintain NERC certification.
  • Must be able to remain calm in stressful conditions and effectively prioritize and multi-task.
  • Familiarity of NERC and WECC standards, policies and business practices.
  • Knowledge of electric utility systems, equipments and operations including familiarity with whole electricity markets.
  • Must sign a FERC Standards of Conduct Confidentiality Agreement.

Tri-State is a Denver based progressive, non-profit, consumer owned wholesale supplier of electric power to 44 distribution cooperatives in CO, WY, NE and NM. With over 1100 employees, Tri-State operates and maintains fossil fuel power plants with owned coal-fired capacity of 1826 megawatts, gas turbines with 526 megawatts of capacity, and over 5200 miles of high voltage transmission lines and 335 substations and switchyards.

    TRANSMISSION MAINTENANCE SUPPORT ENGINEER II-IV (HQ-Westminster, CO)

    • Knowledge of pertinent environmental and safety regulations.

    • Knowledge of training development, including instructional methods and training aids.

    TRANSMISSION SYSTEM OPERATOR (HQ- Westminster, CO)

    Responsible for performing routine and emergency switching on the transmission system. Monitoring transmission system parameters, such as voltages, line and transformer loads and taking corrective actions as required. This position is tasked with the authority and responsibility to operate the Tri-State transmission system in such a manner as to comply with all appropriate NERC Reliability Standards.

    This position is not a System Operator Trainee position. It is an entry-level position for a System Operator having a minimum of 4 years subtransmission/distribution experience. In this position the Transmission System Operator must work with a Senior System Operator on shift.

    • Completion of at least one (1) year as a Tri State System Operator Trainee Program or an equivalent level of experience on an interconnected electrical system.

    • Working knowledge of algebra, geometry, and basic principles of physics including electrical and mechanical theory, AC and DC currents, and the fundamentals of power flow.

    • Must be NERC Certified before assuming the duties of a Transmission System Operator and must maintain certification through completion of required continuing education hours.
