Poudre Valley REA power reliability improvement
 Tri-State is building a new 8-mile, 115-kilovolt transmission line to improve reliable electric service to the member-consumers of Poudre Valley Rural Electric Association. This line will provide the power delivery infrastructure needed to increase reliability and capacity of the existing transmission system.
Poudre Valley REA approached Tri-State, the co-op’s power supplier, about construction of the new line due to increased electric loads in the area and because of reliability concerns of the existing radial, 69-kilovolt line. Use and dependence on the current line is reaching a critical level; to maintain acceptable voltage levels, provide adequate capacity for the long-term load forecast and increase reliability, a 115-kilovolt line is necessary. Construction is scheduled to begin Spring 2010.
The new line will connect the Richard Lake Substation located west of the Anheuser-Busch brewery plant and the Waverly Substation near Douglas Lake on County Road 60.

Next Steps
Tri-State has obtained permits for this proposed project from the City of Fort Collins and Larimer County. Tri-State is in the process of acquiring easements from landowners.
