The addition of renewable energy resources helps diversify Tri-State’s generation mix, and the G&T will significantly increase the amount of renewables in its portfolio.
Additionally, the association purchases renewable energy credits, known as “green tags,” and power from wind, biomass and small-hydro projects for its member systems through its voluntary Green Power Program, which has been in place since 1998.
Tri-State’s proposed transmission projects
will increase capacity across its system, allowing for more generation interconnections, including those from renewable energy developers. In fact, applications to the G&T for interconnections from wind power projects to Tri-State’s Eastern Plains Transmission Project now total more than 1,000 megawatts.
