Tri-State joins as a founding reporter of The Climate Registry

The Climate Registry logoAs part of an Earth Day celebration on April 22, Colorado Governor Bill Ritter recognized Tri-State and 12 other Colorado organizations as being among the first to join The Climate Registry.  The Climate Registry is a nonprofit partnership focused on providing accurate measurements of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and ensuring consistency of data across industry sectors and borders.

“By joining The Climate Registry, Tri-State will voluntarily measure, independently verify and publicly report its greenhouse gas emissions on an annual basis utilizing The Climate Registry General Reporting Protocol,” explained Mac McLennan, Tri-State’s senior vice president of external affairs and member relations.  “The information gathered will be used to develop multi-state emissions data that can inform policymakers as they debate and consider greenhouse gas abatement strategies,” he said.

Tri-State is involved in a number of additional initiatives focused on reducing greenhouse gas emissions, including supporting and participating in a number of renewable energy development projects and, along with its members, aggressively pursuing and promoting energy efficiency and demand-side management programs.

Thirty-nine U.S. states, six Canadian provinces, three Native American tribes, two Mexican states and the District of Columbia are the founders of The Climate Registry.  Colorado, New Mexico, Wyoming and Arizona are all members.

“Tri-State has demonstrated exemplary environmental leadership by stepping forward to support The Climate Registry in its preliminary stages.  We are grateful for its integral support in helping to address the challenge of climate change,” said Gina McCarthy, chair of The Climate Registry.
